Strategy and direction.

S Evans Design works out a business's positioning, audience and story before anything gets designed, so the brand and the website have something to answer to. It runs as its own piece of work or as the first phase of a brand project, quoted individually with the price agreed before anything starts.

Who it is for
  • Founders about to launch who cannot yet say what the business is in one sentence
  • Businesses working from positioning written years ago, for a different company
  • Teams where three people describe what they do three different ways
  • Anyone about to brief a designer and struggling to write the brief
What you get

What it produces.

A position written down in plain language, so it can be used in a pitch, on a website and in a conversation without being reinterpreted each time.

An audience defined by what they are trying to do rather than by age and income, because that is what design decisions actually hang off.

A view of who else is competing for the same attention, and where the gap is.

A brief the design work then answers to, which is what stops a project turning into a matter of taste halfway through.

How it is scoped

It starts with a questionnaire and a conversation, because most of what is needed is already in the founder's head and has never been written down. What comes back is a document, not a deck of adjectives.

Every project is quoted individually. Tell me the scope and a fixed quote comes back, usually within 48 hours, and nothing starts until the price is agreed. The person you brief is the person doing the work.

Questions
Do I need strategy if I just want a logo?

Not always. If you know exactly who you are talking to and what you are selling, the work can go straight to identity. If you are not sure, a logo tends to become a proxy argument for the decisions nobody has made yet.

Can I buy strategy on its own?

Yes. It is often bought on its own by businesses that want the thinking settled before they commit to a full brand build, and the document is useful whoever ends up doing the design.

What do you need from me?

As much as you can give. There is a detailed questionnaire covering the business, the competition, what you like and what you dislike, and most people find they know more than they thought once they see the questions.
