Squarespace has four plans in the UK. Paid yearly, Basic is £14.40 a month, Core £20.40, Plus £34.80 and Advanced £94.80, including VAT. Paid monthly, they are £19.20, £28.80, £43.20 and £106.80. Basic suits a site that shows your work and takes enquiries. Core is the one to choose once you sell, because it drops the 2% fee Basic takes on each sale. Prices checked October 2026.

Do Squarespace prices include VAT?
On the UK pricing page, yes. Each price carries the line "Includes estimated VAT", and the figures work out at 20% on top of these prices before VAT:
- Basic: £12 a month paid yearly (£144 a year), or £16 paid monthly
- Core: £17 a month paid yearly (£204 a year), or £24 paid monthly
- Plus: £29 a month paid yearly (£348 a year), or £36 paid monthly
- Advanced: £79 a month paid yearly (£948 a year), or £89 paid monthly
Those lower figures are the ones to use if your business is VAT registered. Squarespace says UK subscriptions are charged VAT at the standard rate, or at 0% for a VAT-registered business (Taxes and Squarespace billing). To get the 0% rate, you add your VAT registration to your account, as set out in VAT on your Squarespace billing. Some of Squarespace's help pages still say listed prices exclude tax, so check the total and tax breakdown at checkout, which Squarespace shows before you pay.
What does each Squarespace plan include?
Every plan includes hosting, unlimited bandwidth, a free SSL certificate, the templates, and one free custom domain for the first year if you pay yearly. The differences are in who can edit the site, how much you can customise it and what you pay when you sell.
- Basic. Up to two contributors. You can sell products and services and send invoices, but Squarespace takes 2% of each online sale and 7% on courses and memberships.
- Core. Unlimited contributors, fuller analytics, and the ability to add your own CSS and JavaScript. It takes 0% on online sales and 5% on courses and memberships. It adds shipping labels and automated tax, and a free first year of Google Workspace email for one user.
- Plus. Everything in Core, with a lower card rate and a 1% fee on courses and memberships.
- Advanced. Everything in Plus, with the lowest card rate and 0% on courses and memberships.
The free Google Workspace year applies to new accounts set up through Squarespace on Core and above. It covers one user on the Starter plan, and renews at the standard rate after the first year.
The plan price is fixed. The fees grow with your sales.
What fees does Squarespace take on UK sales?
There are two kinds. Squarespace's own transaction fee comes off each sale. Card processing is paid to your payment provider on top of it.
| Plan | Fee on online sales | Fee on courses and memberships | UK personal cards, Squarespace Payments | Automated tax, per sale |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | 2% | 7% | 2.0% + 25p | Not included |
| Core | 0% | 5% | 2.0% + 25p | 0.15%, up to 79p |
| Plus | 0% | 1% | 1.7% + 25p | 0.10%, up to 79p |
| Advanced | 0% | 0% | 1.5% + 25p | 0.05%, up to 79p |
On every current plan, Squarespace Payments charges 3.0% + 25p for American Express and for business and corporate cards, adds 1% for international cards and 2% for currency conversion. Klarna is 5.99% + 30p and Clearpay 6% + 30p. Source: Squarespace transaction fees and payment processing rates.
You can take payments through Stripe or PayPal instead, and they set their own rates. Stripe lists standard UK cards at 1.5% + 20p and premium UK cards at 2.8% + 20p (Stripe UK pricing). Squarespace's own transaction fee still applies whichever provider you use.
Which Squarespace plan suits which kind of business?
| Your business | Start on | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A portfolio, studio or service business that takes enquiries | Basic | Nothing is sold on the site, so the 2% fee never applies |
| A service business with more than two people editing the site | Core | Basic allows two contributors |
| A small shop selling products or booked services | Core | No 2% fee on each sale, plus shipping and tax tools |
| Courses, downloads or a membership | Plus | The fee on digital sales drops from 5% on Core to 1% |
| A busy shop with a high card turnover | Plus or Advanced | Lower card rates, which only pay off at volume |
The line between Basic and Core is easy to work out. Paid yearly, Core costs £72 a year more than Basic including VAT. Basic takes 2% of each online sale, so Core pays for itself once you sell more than £3,600 a year through the site. If you are VAT registered, the gap is £60 a year and the line falls at £3,000.
Plus is harder to justify on card fees alone. Its card rate is 0.3 points lower than Core's, which would need around £57,600 a year of personal card sales to cover the extra £172.80. For courses and memberships the sums change, because the fee drops by four points.
I recommend starting a service business on Basic and moving to Core when you start selling. You can change plan whenever you need to.
Should you pay monthly or yearly?
Yearly, if you are sure about the site. On Basic it saves £57.60 a year including VAT, and only yearly plans come with the free domain for the first year. Monthly makes sense while you are still testing an idea, or if you expect to change plan within a few months.
Squarespace lets you change plan and billing cycle at any time. Moving to yearly starts straight away and is prorated. It does not refund downgrades, so move down at the end of a billing period rather than the start (Squarespace billing changes).
The plan is the smaller part of most budgets. If you are working out what a designed site costs in total, read how much a Squarespace website costs in the UK.
Questions people also ask
Is there a free Squarespace plan?
No. Squarespace offers a 14-day free trial, and its pricing page lists four paid plans. The cheapest is Basic, at £14.40 a month paid yearly, including VAT.
What is the Squarespace fee on sales?
There are two. Squarespace's own transaction fee is 2% of each online sale on Basic and 0% on Core and above, with separate fees for courses and memberships. On top of that you pay card processing to your payment provider: with Squarespace Payments, UK personal cards cost 2.0% + 25p on Basic and Core. See Squarespace's fees page.
Can I change my Squarespace plan later?
Yes. Squarespace says you can change your plan and billing cycle at any time. Upgrades take effect straight away, and a downgrade keeps your current features until the end of the billing period. It does not refund downgrades. See changing your billing plan.
My site is on Personal, Business or Commerce. Do these prices apply?
Not exactly. Those are older plans, and their fees differ: Squarespace lists a 3% sales fee on Business and on legacy Personal, 2% on legacy Business, and 0% on the Commerce plans. Squarespace also says you cannot move down a tier on a legacy plan, only up to a current one.
